Passionfruit Disco

I DJ under the name Passionfruit. I spin vinyl with a focus on disco tracks from around the world but generally will play anything that would sound good played poolside or on a rooftop. From Peru to Japan and Ukraine to South Africa, I’m constantly digging around the world for foreign gems to heat up dance floors.

ART

On September 22, a one-day-only immersive art experience, ‘Immigracious’, set sail in the San Francisco Bay, playing host to 25 immigrants sharing their stories with each other and the world.

Immigracious, an immersive and adventurous artistic experience, is a project by Wild Kind, an Oakland-based art collective specializing in socially conscious experiential art. Twenty five immigrants embarked on an imaginative journey, exploring islands, and partook in a culinary feast on Angel Island. Guests rendezvoused on Freda, the oldest sailing yacht on the west coast, and Horizons, a 50 ft. historic wooden sailboat docked on Treasure Island.

Immigracious was produced by intersectional artist Richie Rhombus in collaboration with Tehetena Yonas, Sanaz Gangei, Coco Spencer, and Ben Burke.

The sailboat has traditionally been considered a symbol of freedom and was integral to the historic American immigration story, and continues to exert a powerful hold on the country’s imagination patterns today. Building on this history and symbolism, Immigracious aimed to cultivate a space for guests to share stories both personal and expressive, while creating new pathways for intercultural understanding and dialogue.

Immigracious is primarily funded via Gofundme donations. Donors receive an artifact from the day and select donors receive a book documenting the event, which includes interviews, photos, recipes, and more.
